Give the user the option to move the red locator star when placement is known to be incorrect. For example: Whenever I enter my address as the beginning point of a trip, MapQuest ALWAYS puts the red star on a location half a mile to the west of where I live. Routing is always incorrect at the beginning.
If I could click on a "move the red star" pointer, I would make a correction to my known location.

Hi Jim,
You actually can move the red star to adjust your route. Just like any point along the route, you can click the star and drag it to the location where you want it to be. The purple route line will follow the star as you move it, and when you drop the star where you want it your driving directions will update as well.
If you want to permanently correct the location of your star, you can do so through MapQuest's data partner, NAVTEQ. Refer to How to Report Updates and Corrections to NAVTEQ for more information.
Thanks,
